Does Rick Santorum have a chance

Media assumes Romney is GOP winner

Even after Santorum pulled off a major surprise by winning the most votes in Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado, the mainstream media reported on this as if it is no big deal. These states are considered swing states by some and winning these states tells me that Santorum has what middle America is looking for in a GOP candidate and Romney is severely lacking.

I have to admit a few weeks ago I totally dismissed Santorum's chances at winning the nomination. It made sense to me that this race would come down to a more conservative Newt Gingrich versus the establishment moderate candidate Mitt Romney. I have thought all along that Romney is way too liberal to become the GOP Presidential nominee let alone defeat Barack Obama in the general election. Given a choice between Romney and Obama I have no doubt America would stick with the status quo for four more years.

Santorum, Gingrich and Paul are the assumed conservatives in the race. Ron Paul frankly is too old to get the nomination although he does have good ideas on the Federal Reserve System being out of wack and in need of reform. However Paul's isolationist foreign policy seems to deem him an extremist to all but the true believers. Newt has way too much baggage to survive this to the convention and have any hope of getting 1144 delegates. Santorum, by elimination, seems to be the frontrunner going into Super Tuesday.

This opinion is not shared by many in the media and many would laugh at my conclusion. Television journalists and commentators all but dismiss Santorum as being too far right to get the nomination. The herd mentality is often wrong and fails to see the coming tides of change. Obama came out of nowhere in 2008 to defeat Hillary and win the Presidency. It seems to me it's not far fetched to assume Rick Santorum can take this momentum going forward and win majority of delegates on Super Tuesday. In fact I predict Santorum will win the GOP nomination.

The economy is still in dire straights and Santorum has done the best job in the debates highlighting what is wrong with Obamacare, calling for the repeal of this law and seems to be the best suited to lead the GOP forward and defeat Obama. Santorum seems more honest and forthright than the other candidates. He may be the closest we will come to another Ronald Reagan type and that is what we need to rescue the nation from the policies of the liberal Democrats and Obama. Conservatism is the only way we will emerge once again as a great nation. It is not too late to turn the tide. We pick our nominee, the mainstream media doesn't so maybe it is wise to do the opposite of what the media might suggest.

He definitely has a chance,if he has a good debate as he has had so far,and comes in first or second in forecoming primaries and caucases,he will become the antiromney, at that point it won't matter whether gingrich drops out or not he will be irrelevant and the antiromney forces will coalesce around Santorum and in a one to one contest Romney has never been able to break that 28 percent ceiling so i think Santorum can win the nomination, that said in the General Election I don't think he can beat Obama unless unemployment goes back to over nine percent and we go into recession again.

Thanks for your comment Mio, I believe the economy will only get worse as the year goes on. All we can muster is a dismal 2% GDP growth. People started revolting against Obama polices in the November 2010 election and I expect this to continue as Obama gets soundly defeated. The GOP candidate has to win Florida, North Carolina, Virgina, Pa and Ohio thats it.

I meant those 5 states in addition to the states McCain won in 2008
